Description:

This retreat aims at helping you better understand the fluctuations of your nervous system and its signals and how it affects your body (i.e., physical pain, injuries) and your emotions (e.g., trauma resurfacing, panic attacks). You will learn how to stop self-sabotage and how to effectively get closer to manifesting the life you are dreaming of. Here is how:

  • Physically intense, yet powerfully therapeutic, Forrest Yoga sequences which will create harmony in your body. Accessible for all levels.

  • Therapeutic hands-on assists that will bring space into your joints and make you feel more at ease in your body instead of pushing you to injury.

  • Daily Ceremony and Vision Quest, which will help you shed the internal noise, cleanse your energy field and prepare the fertile soil to plant the seeds of change and transformation.

  • Breathwork sessions that will help you influence your autonomous nervous system to function optimally.

You will learn how to turn shit into fertiliser by approaching pain, injuries, stress and emotional issues of all sorts from a place of problem-solving and embrace them as teachers. Your Teacher:

Ilias is a Level 5 - Forrest Yoga Guardian handpicked by Ana Forrest and Jose Calarco. He is also a certified Energy Medicine practitioner by dr. Alberto Villoldo (Four Winds Society). and Certified Breathwork Coach by YogaBody Teachers College. He is based in Oslo, where he is offering group, private and corporate yoga classes, as well as workshops, teacher trainings, immersions and retreats. He loves helping his students open up new neurological pathways, take better control of their nervous system and heal their physical and emotional pain through Forrest Yoga, therapeutic hands-on assists, bodywork Ceremony, Breathwork and Energy Medicine. Breath, Movement and Nervous System: How do they relate?

This immersion will provide you with basic, fundamental knowledge to better understand your nervous system and how to influence it to increase or make better use of your energy levels. It is a scientifically documented fact that both our posture and way of breathing affect our energy levels, digestion, emotions, endocrine system and by extension our response to life’s situations. A compromised posture and short, shallow breathing are probably the most common self-sabotage factors in our modern society.  

You will be very surprised with how simple it is to understand your nervous system more deeply through nasal cycles, breathing patterns and body signals. With this understanding you can better grasp why at given moments you feel very highly energetic (sympathetic) or completely low (parasympathetic) when it comes to exercising, performing in front of an audience or performing at a very important work meeting. In addition, you will learn a few basic breathing techniques and tools, which are super easy and practical to use in order to keep your nervous system in balance.

The morning session (2,5 hr) will be a Forrest Yoga juicy practice consisting of Ceremony, Pranayama and physical practice. The sequence will be designed in a way that it helps you improve your posture and will give you immediate feelings of relief and release. You will feel more embodied, spacious and revitalized.

The afternoon session (3 hr) will have both theory and practical exercises on the fundamentals of breathing:

  • What is a diaphragmatic breath and what a relaxed breath should feel like?

  • How can we track down our nasal cycles and what are their implications?

  • Is it really the lack of oxygen that makes us feel drained? (Spoiler alert: No. You will be surprised to hear the answer to this!)

  • Tests to track down your breath capacity and simple, short breathing exercises to balance your nervous system.

  • Time for Q&A.

  • Check in after 10:00 am or arrive with the 7am bus from Lisboa Sete Rios into Oleiros at 10.30am. Breakfast for you on arrival.

September 18-20, Tuesday to Friday

  • 7–8 am: There will be tea and fruit already available from 7 am, in case you like starting the day with a snack and small energy boost.

  • My personal suggestion is to arrive at least a couple of days earlier in Portugal (Lisbon or Porto, both work) so that you can prepare yourself mentally to soak up the good medicine from the retreat. I also think it is a good idea to book holidays in Portugal before or after the retreat. This is what I plan to do as well!

How to get to Vale de Moses:

It is located approximately 2.5 hours from both Lisbon and Porto and accessible by car, with a number of hire options available in both cities. For those looking to travel by public transport, it is recommended to travel via Lisbon for regular Rede Expressos bus services to the local town of Oleiros, where Vale de Moses staff will pick you up for the short drive to the retreat.

Transportation:

It is suggested to rent cars (or scooters) for the group, preferably 1 car per 4 people. It is high season for tourism in Greece, thus we could expect prices up to 45 € per day for renting a car from a decent, reliable company. These costs are not included in the total retreat price. I also recommend that you stay and spend a few extra vacation days in the island, therefore you might want to arrange cars for a longer period. I will create a facebook group so we can make the arrangements. It is necessary to book the cars latest by April, 2024 or else there will be no cars available. Ikaria becomes increasingly popular. Please contact me personally and I will tell you what to do to get the best price possible. You will qualify for a discount as member of the retreat.

Good to know…

  • Bring sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, long pants for hiking to prevent scratches from thorny plants, closed shoes (the guide will not permit you to participate in the excursion with open shoes i.e., sandals, flip-flops), beach towel to sit on for the outdoor meditation in the woods. Bring a small backpack and a refillable water bottle for the excursion days. During the excursion days you will need at least 1 litre of water with you. Lunch pack will be provided to you for those days as well.

The aim of this immersion is to introduce you to the healing tools of Forrest Yoga in such a practical way that will allow you apply them into your daily life and help you mitigate injuries, stress and depression. You will receive personal attention and be provided with easy-to-use tools tailored to your individual, specific needs. You will have time to ask questions and receive wisdom gems that is impossible to get in regular group classes. 

DESCRIPTION

The morning sessions will open up with a Native American inspired Ceremony called Four Directions, which will help you sharpen your focus, increase your concentration and help you delve deeper into feeling. A physically intense, juicy and fun Forrest Yoga practice will follow, where you will get the chance to work in a healing way with your pain or any injuries and help you open up new neurological connections to step out of the patterns that have led you to being stuck, both physically and mentally.

The afternoon sessions will include:

  • Q&A on injuries or any topic you need coaching in

  • Introduction to Forrest Yoga Basic Moves that can be incorporated to minimize the risk of injury in any yoga practice you may be following, even non-Forrest.

  • Visualizations/Meditation with the purpose of fueling you with inspiration to overcome any obstacle or challenge in your life that you may be feeling stuck with.

This immersion is open for all levels and will be designed to meet you at your level. The advanced students will be challenged and thrown out of their comfort zone and bring new inspiration and sparkle in both their practice and life arena. The injured students will compassionately receive intelligent guidance to stay out of pain and understand it better so they can heal it. Saturday morning: Ally Your Fear

Fear tends to influence our life decisions in a very stealthy way. It is very common that we choose partners, friends and job offers that satisfy our fear and this leads to toxic outcomes, such as stress, depression and feeling of being stuck in life. It is very difficult to be aware of such patterns. These fear patterns are stored in our bodies, which is constantly giving us signals by developing illness symptoms, such as chronic pain and inflammation. This workshop will educate you on how to delve deeper into feeling your body and you will receive tools that you can use in your daily life in order to disobey your fear and live your life in a way that you are proud of and in a pain-free body. You will be taken through intelligent sequencing, juicy asanas that will bring you face to face with your fear and help you conquer it. We will do this in a fun way and yet safe way! All levels are welcome, including pregnant women and injured people.

Sunday morning: Connect to your Heart Wisdom

After having identified the various expressions of fear, you will be educated on how to listen the subtle guidance of your Heart. Our heart is the center of our luminous energy field (the electromagnetic field that surrounds our body, called aura by some) and is the one that gives you clear guidance on what is worth fighting for and what is worth fighting against. You will learn how to consult your Heart’s intuition so that you can base your life decisions on your true desires and spiritual purpose and not fear and insecurity. You will be taken through a juicy, backbending sequence that will loosen up the Heart area and open new neurological pathways that will light up your brain in a brilliant way. All levels are welcome, including pregnant women and injured people.

In this immersion you will be introduced to the therapeutic tools of Forrest Yoga and Energy Medicine, that are effective and easy to apply both on and off the yoga mat. You will be educated on how to strip off the numbness and connect more to your body’s visceral sensations that can guide you on how to heal your pain and injuries. You will learn how to listen to the subtle voice of your intuition stemming from your heart’s wisdom, which can guide you on how to live your life in alignment with your true purpose and what makes YOU happy and delighted.

The morning intensive practice will open up with a Native American-inspired Ceremony called Four Directions and continue with a juicy, challenging, fun and yet, safe Forrest Yoga physical practice that will loosen up your body and crumble down the layers of numbness so that you experience more freedom in your body and mind. 

The afternoon session will include Asana Lab that will be tailored based on those who participate. You will come up with postures (Asanas) that trouble you or are painful for your body and you will be educated on how to practice them in a way that honours your body and alleviates your pain. You will have time to ask questions as well. We will seal the immersion with a Vision Quest Ceremony to feed your Spirit and leave you feeling invigorated, lively and ready to take on the world.

Your Teacher:

Ilias is a Level 5 - Forrest Yoga Guardian, handpicked by Ana Forrest and Jose Calarco. He is based in Oslo, where he teaches Forrest Yoga full-time. He is offering group, private and corporate yoga classes, as well as workshops and bigger events such as teacher trainings, immersions and retreats. He loves helping his students open up new neurological pathways and heal their physical and emotional pain through Forrest Yoga, Ceremony and therapeutic hands-on assists. His classes are intense – yet accessible to all levels – and provide a unique blending of playfulness and discipline as well as finding softness within strength. His intelligently created sequences are based on his deep understanding of anatomy and they create a feeling of harmony, relief and space in the body and mind. Very often his sequences help the practitioners to dissolve old scar tissue and free themselves from trauma safely, while Ilias supports them fully.

Ilias is expert on seeing energy and addressing the specific needs of his students each moment, even in a group class. His scientific background as geoscientist helps him to be structured and succinct with his cues. It is located approximately 2.5 hours from both Lisbon and Porto and accessible by car, with a number of hire options available in both cities. Description: It is a sad fact that our people nowadays suffer from excess stress and fear poisoning, which leads in poor decision-making and lack of discipline and motivation for living passionately. All this causes a deterioration of their physical and mental well-being. Blaming this on external factors and going into victim mode is not providing a solution to this problem. It is a change of attitude that can bring inner peace and a shift in perspective so that we see opportunities everywhere we look.

In this immersion, you will be offered tools to educate yourself on how to connect deeper to your body and how to use feeling to quest for answers from your authentic self. You will explore your creative fire to begin building stronger discipline to achieve the changes you most desire. That is what I call power!

In the morning sessions, you will be taken through Ceremony and intense physical practice, which will help you disperse the numbness around your physical and emotional blockages. Description: In Forrest Yoga we emphasise in using asana, deep breathing and ceremony to dive more into feeling and connect to our deeper, authentic parts of ourselves. Many of our people today live in a superficial state of being and suffer from stress, physical and emotional pain as well as disconnection from Spirit.

Based on my current interpretation – I am changing views as I am walking through life– spirituality is a result of strong, uninterrupted focus towards within. That is when we break free from our habitual ways of thinking and limitations we put on ourselves and go beyond the noise and the lies of our conditioned mind. Beyond the manifestations of fear, such as “I can’t, I am not good enough, flexible enough, I don't deserve to be loved etc.” you name your nemesis thought. These deeply ingrained, fixed ideas we have about ourselves sneak into our lives through traumatic experiences of either low or high degree of intensity. When someone at school tells we are fat or ugly, or our crush rejects in a belittling way. When our parents burden us with their own insecurities and tell us we are not as clever as the neighbours child. When we have been publicly ashamed for an action we took at one event and that reputation haunts ever since. And so on.

Such ideas root deep within our unconscious mind and body and deviously affect our life decisions and actions. Who feels they are worthy of love when the person they desired the most broke their wide-open, vulnerable heart? Who feels they can open to trust someone intimately, when the ones closest to them earlier in life who they trusted the most, abused them physically or emotional or in any other way? Victims of such abusive situations are conditioned to believe that love come at a cost: pain and suffering.

You are getting my point by now.

The good news is that nothing is final. Our brain has been proven even by science that is able to create new neurological networks – neuroplasticity. The even better news are that Forrest Yoga is designed to help the practitioner build new neurons. And it does that in the whole body, not just the brain. Because the brain stores those emotions into the body at the time of the trauma and therefore a more holistic cleansing is more effective.

What I am telling you is: You can heal out of anything, as long as you wish to dedicate yourself fully to the healing process.

In this 2-day workshop you will be guided through a deep, intense physical practice that will trigger your old conditioned beliefs and give you the change to rewire your brain so that you can sense your own Beauty that has been hiding under your emotional backlog. Almost all of us are characterized by asymmetries as to how we engage our muscles. When these asymmetries are heightened, they lead to structural problems, like scoliosis, kyphosis, lordosis and anything in-between (all result of compression). When our structure suffers over a long period of time, it often creates other type of problems, such as inflammation in various areas of the body (knee, shoulders, knees, spine), depression, anxiety, panic attacks etc. Our joints begin to suffer and our physical and emotional well-being is compromised.

This immersion will help you track your own degree of asymmetries (your blind spots)  in your structure and offer you tools on how to smoothen them. When you suffer from a pain local to a specific part of the body, you must look at how your entire structure is responding at the moment of pain or discomfort. That itself correlates to a specific neurological pathway in your brain; simply explained, your brain is programmed to move your body in very specific ways to cope with the stress of the moment. Over a long period of time and in order to save energy, your brain does these actions on autopilot, while you must carry on finishing that task you are doing even though you are exhausted and/or you hate it. This immersion will offer you tools on how to sharpen your awareness and become more adept at noticing your blind spots. You will be educated to rewire your brain, which is a life-long task, but quite honestly, you must start from somewhere! You will be informed about common misalignments in yoga poses and shown how to establish a safe and yet, challenging way to practice. You will learn how Forrest Yoga Basic Movements, play a key role in developing a practice which helps you grow physically and emotionally.

Believe it or not, just because you are showing up yoga doesn’t necessarily mean that you get the most out of it. Furthermore, most of the yoga classes are packed with many participants. As a result the teacher must adapt to the average level of the group, which often leaves out very beginners and/or very advanced students. On top of that, a specific way of doing a pose can benefit one student, but quite surprisingly harm another!

It is, therefore, in your interest to educate yourself so that you can become skillful in tailoring each pose based on your own structural needs. For instance, poses should be practiced differently by a person with scoliosis compared to a person with lordosis. Extrapolate this to all types of issues such as knee, shoulder, hip and neck injuries. You will be surprised by how much of a deeper understanding you will develop for your own practice. If you are a yoga teacher, you can use that wisdom to broaden the spectrum of the students you can help in a substantial way. This immersion is open to all level practitioners who simply wish to get more value out of their practice and the responsibility of healing in their own hands. My friends, you are spending your time to practice anyway; why not get the most out of your practice? People with injuries and pregnant women, I really encourage you to join this immersion as well. You are not obligated, but it would be very helpful if you send me an email in advance explaining me your situation. That way I can address your needs much more effectively.

June 12th, Sunday
9-11:30 am: Morning Intensive Practice. Backbends.

You will feel the harmony of good sequencing. You will receive educational cues as we go through the sequence. How and why the sequence is built in a way that it creates resonance in your body and helps it get more space. It is extremely common that yoga practitioners feel low back pain after practicing backbends, especially when they push over their edge. Backbends are very healing for the spine, but can very quickly become damaging if practiced carelessly. The phrase “the dosage is what makes the poison or medicine”
describes that very accurately. This sequence will teach you how to feel your body more deeply and respect your own edge, but at the same time challenge it.

I am proud to announce a long-weekend Forrest Yoga retreat taking place at Nøsen Yoga high-mountain lodge, on November 26th-29th, 2020. This wonderful centre offers a variety of activities including skiing, hiking, paddling and fishing, which you can combine with our daily yoga activities. It is surrounded by pristine lakes, meadows and waterfalls, and most importantly, it is easily accessible from Oslo (ca. 2,5-3 hours by train or bus).

The intention of the retreat is to use the transformative tools of Forrest Yoga and the connection to nature in order to strip off some of your physical and emotional backlog that may be limiting you from experiencing true freedom and lightness as you walk through life. We will enjoy the medicine of ceremony, chanting, intelligent sequencing and meditation. The sequences will be designed to accommodate all levels and provide you with a safe area, where you can work with your injuries in a pain-freeing way. And because healing can be taken too seriously by many, we will have lots of fun with singing with our “terrible” voices, dancing and playing with intriguing asanas!

Thursday

15:00: Check-in.

16:30 – 17:00: Talking circle.

17:00 – 19:00: Forrest Yoga practice.

19:00 – 20:00: Dinner.

Friday

6:30 – 9:00: Morning practice.

9:00 – 10:00: Breakfast.

10:00 – 16:00: Break for activities – own time. Lunch at 13:00-14:00 (or possibility to get a packed lunch, if you wish to be outdoor).

16:00 – 18:00: Time for discussion, bodywork, tips for healing injuries, restorative yoga and meditation.

18:00 – 19:00: Dinner.

19:00 – 20:00: Emotional processing and journaling (bring pen and notebook).

Saturday

6:30 – 9:00: Forrest Yoga practice.

9:00 – 10:00: Breakfast.

10:00 – 16:00: Break for activities – own time. Lunch at 13:00-14:00 (or possibility to get a packed lunch, if you wish to be outdoor).

16:00 – 18:00: Time for discussion, bodywork, tips for healing injuries, restorative yoga and meditation.

18:00 – 19:00: Dinner.

19:00 – 20:00: Journaling (bring pen and notebook), talking circle.

Sunday

6:30 – 9:00: Forrest yoga practice.

11:00: Check-out.

Prices & accommodation: Triple room 3850 kr, double/twin room 4450 kr, and single room: 5050 kr.

You receive 500 kr discount if you plan to attend both Parts 1 & 2 of my retreat. First part is in September, click here for information.

Meals: Three vegetarian/vegan meals per day, free tea and coffee are included in the total price.

Transport and pick-up services from train and bus stations are not included: If participants want to be picked up, that will cost extra service 150 kr from Fagernes, and 200 kr from Gol. One way per person.

Hello beautiful people,

I am proud to announce a long-weekend Forrest Yoga retreat taking place at Nøsen Yoga high-mountain lodge, on September 3rd-6th, 2020. This wonderful centre offers a variety of activities including skiing, hiking, paddling and fishing, which you can combine with our daily yoga activities. It is surrounded by pristine lakes, meadows and waterfalls, and most importantly, it is easily accessible from Oslo (ca. 2,5-3 hours by train or bus).

  • Accommodation for 3 nights in the chosen lodging option at Nøsen Yoga og Fjellhotell
